Our Galentine’s Get Together

Let’s be real…there’s nothing quite like a full on Girl’s Day, am I right?! Spending time with your friends and getting pampered is truly one of life’s necessities! @spoonfuloftrish, @opalsandobsessions, @jenamorgan and @onebroadsjourney and I, all met up at Luxe Dermatology’s convenient, and central Tysons Corner location.

We had the best afternoon consisting of champagne, sweet treats, fun photos, and of course all out luxe treatments!

Celebrating

Luxe Dermatology provided us all with cute logo t-shirts and swag bags, and we loved snapping photos with Dr. Liza Moore, the Clinical Director of Luxe Dermatology & Aesthetic Center. Fun fact, even though this was only my second time meeting her, Dr. Moore’s husband and my husband have actually worked together for years. I was so honored and proud to support her as she opened her own business. To see firsthand, how amazing her practice already is (just 3 weeks old), was beyond impressive and so inspiring!

The Treatment

Ok, let’s get to the info you really want to know about – the treatment!!! We all got facials; two had custom facials, and three of us had HydraFacials. I personally got the HydraFacial, which is one of the most popular and sought after, non-invasive, facials out there! HydraFacials at Luxe Dermatology & Aesthetic Center, consist of a four step process to cleanse, exfoliate, extract, and hydrate. HydraFacials are perfect for combating fine lines, wrinkles, enlarged pores, oily or congested skin, and dark spots. They also help to improve skin texture, elasticity, and firmness, as well as evening skin tone and adding vibrancy.

Why is the HydraFacial so special though?
As noted on HydraFacial’s own website, it explains that “the spiral design of HydroPeel® Tips, used in conjunction with the HydraFacial proprietary vacuum technology and serums, creates a vortex effect to easily dislodge and remove impurities while simultaneously delivering hydrating skin solutions“.

Sounds awesome right? I was so ready for it — and it did not disappoint!

First things first though, we actually started off the treatment with dermaplaning, have you guys tried that??? I’ll admit, I was nervous to do this initially, but once I saw everyone else do it, I went for it! In all honesty, it’s actually a very gentle and easy process that removes the dead skin and peach fuzz off your face using a blade. You can see Natalie expertly navigating the blade along my face in the photo below. Afterwards, your skin is silky smooth, and hair free. Side note, I was worried about any hair regrowth coming back in super super thick or coarse, but I’ve heard from several sources that is not the case; it will return normally/as it was.

Once the dermaplaning was completed, we moved on to step one of the HydraFacial process, which is cleansing. Natalie thoroughly cleansed my skin to prep it for the exfoliation phase. The chemical exfoliation portion included glycolic and salicylic acids. This process has a gentle suction feel, but nothing painful at all. Since I’ve been a regular user of glycolic acid for a few years, I did not feel any stinging or have any sensitivity to it. If you do feel anything during the chemical process, it would just resemble a slight stinging sensation. If it becomes too intense, just let your aesthetician know, and they can make adjustments as necessary. After the exfoliation was complete, we moved on to extractions. Again, the specially designed tips of the HydraFacial machine are what help remove blackheads, clogged pores and impurities.

The next step was infusing antioxidants and peptides into the skin to help boost collagen production. Natalie performed LED light treatment therapy on me as well, and the facial ended with the all important, sunscreen application (which is a MUST!).

In terms of aftercare, you want to be careful to not expose your skin to harsh chemicals or direct sunlight, and use only gentle cleansers and moisturizers for at least 48 hours after your facial. Your skincare provider can best advise you on any specific processes they may want you to follow.
