Staying Local
I love to travel and getaway, but sometimes the best places to visit are right in your own hometown. I absolutely adore Old Town Alexandria, and was so excited at the opportunity to do a sponsored stay over at The Alexandrian, a few weekends ago. This hotel is situated right in the heart of Old Town. It’s steps away from the water, as well as fabulous shopping, and amazing restaurants. The vibe in Old Town cannot be beat, it’s historic and charming with beautiful streets and homes, I honestly never get tired of it!
Accommodations at The Alexandrian
I stayed in a large King Room with Terrace, that overlooked the adorable courtyard area, which is also known as the King & Rye Cocktail Garden. The room was spacious, and whimsical yet chic and sophisticated. I loved the chaise lounge and matching arm chair, which were perfect for lounging or reading. The room also featured ample closet space, a mini fridge, desk/work area, and an updated bathroom.
The terrace was also a fantastic place to relax, unwind, and people watch. The courtyard was beautiful all lit up at night, and bursting with sunshine in the morning and afternoon.
King & Rye, and Fit for a Queen
After finally getting out the plush bathrobes provided by The Alexandrian, I made my way down to their onsite restaurant, King & Rye. I was excited to enjoy happy hour in the Cocktail Garden with a refreshing beverage and a delicious cheese board. Oh yes, all while enjoying the IG worthy photo wall as well!
Luckily we made our way inside to the dining room before a summer thunderstorm rolled through. I enjoyed an amazing meal, but it was so hard to pick just one dish from the expertly curated menu of Southern Cuisine. For my entree, I went with the scallops and charred okra, and for dessert, I chose the cornmeal, almond & lemon cake with roasted strawberries and creme fraiche ice cream – which was heaven on a plate! Also, truth be told, I usually nurse a cocktail all night, but I downed this Pretty as a Peach Martini, and can’t wait for another one!
Aesthetics & Amenities
The lobby of the hotel is so beautiful; with light grey painted walls, and gold trim, it’s definitely right up my alley. The colorful furniture is gorgeous, and there are multiple seating areas throughout the lobby, but I must say this little seating area in front of the windows, is a nice spot to wait out the summer storms!
Also, I love that this hotel is pet friendly AND offers their guests use of bikes to get around town!
Experience The Alexandrian
The Alexandrian is also part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection of premium hotels, which they describe as “Exactly like nothing else…A global collection of distinctive independent hotels carefully crafted to leave a lasting imprint.” The Alexandrian is so unique and special, most definitely exactly like nothing else, and should be on your list of places to visit and stay at next!
